G D Heatwole of Rockingham County stays with Jacob Bowers. Keedy and Wallace visit their father in town. William Funk owns a cat that can dice and beat some pros. Mamie Hough to arrive tonight, guest of Clara Seabright. Stephens and Nannie Williams return to Woodstock. Enterprise Printing buys Electric Printing plant. Robi Callum to be hosted by Miss Fannie Gray in Washington. Rehearsals for Mistletoe Barrow in Court House Hall. New kitchen frame at Union Engine House for bazaar. Beauford Pierce hosts party near Wadesville. SVA represented by Harry Peters and Monroe. Snow falls at Union Bank and hits D. Lewis Bush. Edward Smoke and son visit from White Hall. Edward to stay for weekend. J W Russell hosts guests and employees of the igeg.
The Mutual Farmers' Club gathered at the residence of Mr N W Solenberger in this city this morning for their meeting.
At a meeting last night the Friendship Band accepted the invitation of the Union Steam Fire Company to attend their bazaar and oyster supper.
Last night the young people of Winchester rode sleighs despite falling snow. Sleigh bells rang as riders, nearly covered in snow, formed snow figures while the fast horses pulled them along.
A silk quilt with handsome squares will be auctioned at the Union bazaar and oyster supper. The design work is praised and the finished quilt should be a fine piece, reflecting the effort of the ladies who contributed.
The Winchester Lodge No. 65 K of P plans a midnight reunion and grand rally on February 18 to mark the lodge's thirty fourth anniversary. All members in the city and county are urged to attend. An anniversary sermon is to be held within about a week, date to be announced.
Property holders on Piccadilly street between Main and Market complain of imperfect drainage as gutters clog and flood pavements. Supt. Conrad dispatched a work crew to clear the gutters shortly before noon today to prevent cellar and business flooding.
Epworth League of the M. E. Church South held its regular monthly social and business session last night. Attendance was good and the meeting was enjoyed by all. Five short speeches were delivered by Mifin Swartz William Hardy John Isman Clifton Hodgson William Snyder and Rev Dr Cox. An original poem and solo were also presented.
The Reading Club met at Mr. Charles L. Crum's residence amid weather-related absenteeism. Members solved a two or more word puzzle where each word led to a notable name. examples include Clever Romancer Charles Reade and Book Sells Harriet Beecher Stowe, entertaining and instructive.
Snow began last evening and turned to rain overnight with continual downpour. Sidewalks are slick and flooded gutters overflow, causing several people to fall and suffer bruises though no serious injuries are reported. More rain since February 1st than all January.
To the Public donations of fancy articles or provisions are sought for the Anniversary Bazaar and Oyster Supper benefiting Union Steam Fire Company No. 2. Weather prevents in-person visits. contributions to the presidents and vice presidents will be accepted to support the cause.
