Union Fire Laddies Meet In February Sessions
The Union volunteers held a February meeting in their apartments with large attendance. Officers Kinzel and Kiger presided as committees reported on various events including a $1,000 check turned over to the treasurer. Herbert S. Larrick was elected to a named position and plans for the 65th anniversary events with the Friendship Fire Company were approved.

Round Hill Society Meets at Rev Carter Home
The Round Hill Literary Society held a well attended meeting at Rev R W Carter's residence last night with about sixty people. Exponents debated Shakespeare merits in Henry VIII. Recitations by Miss Susie Byrd John Cather Ada Cather and Mr Howard Larrick. Music by Miss Blanche Pierce and the Lupton family. Refreshments offered. Next gathering at Mr J W Larrick's on March 4.

Winchester Farmers Institute Sets Two Day Program
The 5th annual Farmer's Institute at Winchester will run on the 22nd and 23rd of this month. Topics include corn fodder for feeding, bee culture, Arbor Day, cattle feeding, historical farmer prosperity, road building, Clover and Hay, The New Woman on the Farm, Farm Garden and Fruit Garden. The committee will publish full program details next week with invited speakers from a distance expected to attend.

Prominent County Man George Glaize Dies at 77
Mr George Glaize aged 77 died at his home on the Pughtown pike near Winchester yesterday at 4 PM from pneumonia aided by prior paralysis and leg erysipelas turning to blood poisoning. He leaves nine children from his first marriage to Miss Rinker and a widow Mrs Pope. He was a Bethel Lutheran Church member. Funeral Monday at 11 AM from the Lutheran Church.

Escape on ice at Bartonsville dam ends with close calls
A Winchester group including Lawrence Clark and Edgar Worthington skated on Bartonsville dam ice, where several youths from Stephen City and Bartonsville fell in. Clark narrowly escaped drowning after breaking through the ice near the fore-bay, with Mary Ann Bush also going under briefly and being rescued by Edgar Worthington. Albert Worthington also broke through but all were saved and plans for further skating today went ahead.

Harrisonburg groups plan monument to General Turner Ashby
The 8 B Gibbons Camp and allied Confederate and veterans groups in Harrisonburg unite to erect a monument to General Turner Ashby who fell June 8 1862 at Cross Keys. They will buy 1.5 acres at the Ashby grave site with Stonewall Cemetery as the burial place and aim for completion by June 3rd the 36th anniversary.
