The Union Cornet Band celebrated its fifteenth anniversary with a banquet at J. P. Sartelle's store on Main street. Members, guests, and the Union Fire Company officers attended, with speeches by Capt Kinzel and others, a rich program, songs and cigars, ending with Home Sweet Home as hours grew late.

State move to forfeit Winchester & Strasburg charter
State Railroad Commissioner Hill plans legal steps to revoke the Winchester and Strasburg Railroad charter over alleged failure to serve travelers. The line, part of the B and O system, was exempted in 1887 with a trackage agreement to Ma nassa Gap Road, a condition said to have lasted until December 1896. Since then trains allegedly stopped at Strasburg Junction, about a mile and a half from town.

The Union Fire Company named Lieut. Reed Jos Burger Rev. Dame C Hoover and Capt. George H to plan the Third Rouss Anniversary honoring Charles Broadway Rouss. A parade to Court House Hall will precede addresses music poems and resolutions. City and county officials and other citizens are invited. A bazaar and oyster supper will raise funds for the event.
