Cow Stops Train At Conway Crossing

A north bound Valley Branch freight stopped at Conway's crossing yesterday afternoon when a cow stood on the tracks. The engine shrieked and the train halted with the cow unmoved until the fireman came down from the cab to drive her away, allowing the train to pass.

Tea in Honor of Miss Louise Patton Baker

The Misses Eddins hosted a refined tea at their home 1804 Park Avenue from 4 to 6 pm on Friday to honor Miss Louise Patton Baker of Winchester. The house featured lavish decorations of palms ferns and la France roses with candles hidden by smilax and a pink satin bow. Miss Eddins wore white silk and point d esprit while Miss Baker wore organdy with white ribbon.

Miller child dies at Stephens City home

Two year old Julia Miller died at her Stephens City residence last Saturday afternoon. The child’s remains were brought to the home of Mr Strother Shalloe for inquiry and funeral arrangements are to be announced.

Death of Thomas R. Harrison Near Stephens City

Thomas Re Harrison a long time county resident died at his home near Stephens City in the eighty seventh year of age. Born April 3 1810 in Canterbury England he came to America fifty years ago and bought a farm in the county in 1873. A gentleman and classical scholar his last words echoed a Latin quotation. He had no relatives locally but was cared for by friends. He was an Episcopal Church member. Funeral at 10 30 tomorrow from his residence with Rev Dr Everett officiating. Interment Mt Hebron.

Miss Emily Smith of Spi Gardens in the western city took an overdose of chloroform last night around nine. Prompt remedies prevented serious harm as she suffered neuralgia and toothache. Family worked unceasingly to restore consciousness. she is better today.
