Mayor Baker vows to curb drunken and disorderly behavior as police crack down in Winchester. A dragnet arrested Maggie Pratt, fined $10, and three other men in a craps raid at the Baltimore and Ohio depot. Prisoners faced Magistrate Wilson, with tensions rising as officers closed in on suspected gamblers.
Charles William Gibbens son of former City Treasurer M Gibbens died after a short illness at his father’s North Loudoun Street home. He had worked in railroad postal service and as a Winchester post office letter carrier. He leaves his father and two brothers, Robert Gibbens of Altoona PA and Cornelius Gibbens of Baltimore MD. Funeral set for Tuesday at 4 PM from his father’s home. Rex Dr wis God) Miter will officiate. interment Mount Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers named from local postal staff.
Aged Mr. Catlett fatally injured while en route to Sunday visit at his daughter’s home in Brucetown. Official dispatch notes the accident occurred as he traveled to celebrate the day, with preliminary details suggesting a fatal machinery mishap.
Two men, W C Himmelright of Strasburg and Edward Harrell of Linden, were arraigned before US Commissioner A J Tavenner in Winchester on a federal charge linked to a postoffice robbery and an improper letter sent through the mails. Himmelright was released on $250 bail. Harrell was captured at Linden on a capias and is held on charges connected to the Linden post office robbery. The case involves a man identified as Sampson Catlett, said to be the region’s oldest resident, whose death is noted in the report.
Charles Weedon Duvall, 18 months old, died after a kettle of boiling water overturned while his mother moved a vessel near the stove at their home near Stephenson's Station. The accident occurred about 10 am. the child suffered burns from head to waist and died at 6 pm. Doctor F A Cochran treated him and deemed not inevitable, as the burns were severe and fatal outcomes followed quickly.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Greenhow Lee widow of Capt. Hugh Holmes Lee of Winchester was held at Emmanuel Church Baltimore and interment took place at Mount Hebron. The service was led by Rev. J Houston Eccleston with Rev. Dr. William M. Dame assisting. Pallbearers included Harry Baker and others.
