An all day rally at The Auditorium aims to boost Virginia rural schools under the Educational Cooperative Commission. About 800 people from Winchester and Frederick County heard Capt. George H. Harvey of Rockingham and Prof. J. H. Latane of Washington & Lee speak on consolidation and school improvement. A musical and elocution program followed with the Junior Orchestra and several special numbers.

Nearly Killed by B and C Freight Train
The Southbound B and C freight train shifted at Edinburg last Monday. Nathan Wolverton attempted to cross the track behind the train. His buggy was struck and shattered. He was thrown from the wreck with severe injuries to the head and body. His condition was considered critical. The horse escaped unharmed.

Bowman and wife visit Winchester after Civil War wounds
Colonel J. Bowman and Mrs Bowman with Miss Louisa Weaver of Plainfield New Jersey stay at the Hotel Vans for several days in Winchester. Bowman, who served with General Sherman, was wounded in the September battle on the 19th while commanding during the war.

Death of Staunton Contractor William Lushbaugh
William Lewis Lushbaugh died at his Church Street home in Staunton at 1 30 pm after a heart ailment. Born 1828 he lived in Staunton except for four years in Missouri before the Civil War. A building contractor and Blue Lodge Mason, he aided in constructing the Masonic Temple and served on the Augusta National Bank board. Survived by wife Julia Rice and siblings Harman J Loshbaugh and Mrs. Mary Adams Evans.

Heroic Fight With A Desperate Robber In Denver Trolley
Denver Times reports two would be robbers tried to hold up a trolley crew. Conductor R Clinton Roberts struggled with a masked robber at the end of the line, restrained the assailant, while an accomplice fled. The unmasked robber was left unconscious and handed to authorities.

Sarah Zane Fire Company Plans Uniform Fill Next Week
The Sarah Zane Fire Company will fill every uniform for a trip to Waynesboro next week. Members met with high attendance, agreed to depart Wednesday morning and return Thursday evening, and to bring horses and reel and reel team. Members must report to Secretary H H Willis with 1.22 for fare by the next Tuesday meeting. Invitations to Memorial services at the National Cemetery May 30 and to other events were declined. The company also discussed restricting hose carriage access to active firefighters only and may request nonworking individuals to walk to fires.

Mrs Addison Fletcher died at her home Friday morning at 10 o clock. Funeral services were held at 2 o clock at her residence with Rev White officiating. She was about 70 and survived by five sons Byrd Fletcher Front Royal Charles Fletcher Front Royal Thomas Fletcher Cumberland John Fletcher Baltimore Edward Fletcher Baltimore. Interment was at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Maurice H Routzahn long known Middletown resident dies at Montevue Hospital Frederick after a yearlong battle with consumption. Born April 9 1839 in Middletown he was crippled from birth yet traveled widely as an agent across many states and foreign countries leaving a wide imprint. Funeral held at the Lutheran church in Middletown with interment in John Herring’s lot.
