The Market Street Methodist Episcopal Church held its annual children’s day event despite threatening weather. The Sunday school, led by Superintendent E. B. Sartelle, filled the program with choruses, recitations, and daisy drills, following the general church observance across the United States on the second Sunday in June.

Berkeley Springs Raises Saloon License to Two Thousand
The Berkeley Springs town council in West Virginia amended the liquor ordinance increasing the saloon license from 200 to 1000 dollars annually. The change takes effect June 30 and with the state license at 1000 dollars the total annual operating cost becomes 2000 dollars.

Army officers start two month study tour of Civil War battlefields
A group of thirty student officers from the War College left Fort Myer for a two month tour guided by Major Eben Swift. They will study Civil War ground in Virginia Maryland and Pennsylvania ending with a month at Gettysburg with the National Guard and Regular Army. The caravan traveled via Manassas Gap toward Winchester hampered by rain and bad roads. the 153 mile Washington to Gettysburg route should reach Gettysburg by June 27.

The skull and remains examined by eminent physicians confirm identity. Burial dated 1724. Descendants in Shenandoah Valley plan memorial. Ambrose Henkel of New Market reported the find after a long search.

Harrisonburg prepares for a new station after the railroad awarded J J Walsh & Son a 25 000 to 30 000 contract for brick brick with red roof construction. The plan includes a 104 by 28 foot building heated by steam and a 325 foot vitrified brick platform with 210 feet under a butterfly canopy. The city also bought land to open a street leading to the station.

Makes Record Flight From New York to Philadelphia
Charles K. Hamilton the aviator flew from New York to Philadelphia in one hour fifty three minutes on June 13 arriving just behind a special train. Mayor Reyburn and a crowd welcomed him as the aircraft was reported under perfect control. Separately a dispatch says 21 crew members died when a British schooner wrecked on a reef off Fort Defiance with others saved.
