Martinsburg youths steal horse team and flee on wild ride
Four youths two girls and two boys including Mary Palmer and Goldie Bler allegedly took a team from David Bowers near Martinsburg on Wednesday night. After a wild ride to Winchester and back they were pursued by Bowers and brought to local authorities. Bail was set at 500 dollars each awaiting hearing. Police may press charges for cruelty to animals in addition to theft.

Paper Mills to Restart Near Winchester on Aug 1
Arrangements have been made to reopen the Old Dominion Paper Company mill located a mile south of Winchester along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Operations will resume Monday August 1 after years of closure and bankruptcy. A workforce has been hired and the mill is expected to operate permanently after the restart.

Drowned Roberts Identified After Burial Ordeal
A Martinsburg report confirms the body found in Opequon Creek near the Baltimore and Ohio tracks is Robert Roberts of Brucetown. Identification by Mr. Charles Laise came after exhumation, revealing a match in dental imperfection and a familiar appearance. Roberts, age about 51, wandered frequently and had worked in the Caskey bakery in Martinsburg. The case closes with funeral rites pending memorials by the Martinsburg Lodge of Kinghts of Pythias.

The largest crowd yet in Petersburg, Grant County, W Va, attended the lot sale yesterday. Col J C Morrow of Pittsburg acted as auctioneer as over 3,000 gathered for the sale of 79 parcels priced from 150 to 350 dollars each. A balloon ascent with parachute leap by Johnny Mack and a brass band concert accompanied the event. Petersburg will be the terminus of the Hampshire Southern Railroad reaching Moore field.

Fire Threatens Soldiers Camp at Gettysburg
A fire broke out yesterday at the United States Army instruction camp at Gettysburg destroying the cook tent and a mess tent. Six thousand sixty regulars and militia were called out by division headquarters. The rear woods burned toward the camp but tents were saved with rapid defense and tree cutting to halt the flames.

Windell Rites Planned After Winchester Death
George Windell of Winchester died at Richmond Virginia Hospital following an operation for appendicitis and typhoid fever. He was 38, survived by wife Helen formerly Miss Chapman of Shepherdstown, a sister Mrs Jos E Stegner of Newark, and another sister Mrs John Kater. he had worked in meat, marble, and as a salesman and was a member of the Friendship Fire Company and several societies. Remains expected to reach Winchester tomorrow for funeral services to be announced.
