Judge Harrison led opposition to a Virginia constitutional change requiring two council branches for all cities. He argued Winchester and others prefer a single branch and warned the measure would disqualify leading taxpayers and disrupt 125 years of local governance.
In a moonlit prank near Ambherst street, Master Claude Ryan accidentally shot his right hand while handling a pistol. Doctors planned to remove the bullet after an earlier snake bite incident linked to the same group of boys.

A ceremony last night at 6 o clock at Mr. Ignatius Cooper’s home joined Aquilla H. Jackson and Rose Lee Cooper. The bride wore blue cloth and carried white carnations. Rev. N N Hall presided. The couple will reside in Winchester. the groom, a Troy Laundry employee, is a singer in the Wynva Quartette.
Mr W A Mareh of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company holds fifth place in the district’s top fifty solicitors list, described as a hustling solicitor.
The Braddock Street M E Church South Epworth League will host a Friday night meeting at 7 30. It will discuss Frank L Stanton the Georgia poet whose work is widely reprinted. A varied program includes readings solos duets and a critical estimate by W H H Joyce and Mrs Wisecarver.
Mr Rees J Bageant longtime county resident of Collinsville died after a yearlong illness. The funeral is set for ten o'clock Friday at Wesley Chapel with Rev A A P Neel to deliver the sermon. He leaves a widow Miss Jolly a child three sisters Mrs Branson Anderson Winchester Misses Reedy and Annie Bageant and three brothers Elmer Mortimer and Forrest.
The tract of land belonging to the heirs of the late Mrs. Susan C. Man or situate three miles from Winchester on the North Frederick turnpike was sold to Mr. J. B. Lovett for 55 dollars per acre cash. The property was formerly part of the estate of Jas. Bryarly, grandfather of the purchaser.
A large group of youths from the city attended a social dance last night at Jacob's farm near town now tenanted by Mr. McDonald. The event drew many young residents and featured music and dancing into the evening.
William Herrell eighteen year old typewriter and amanuensis at W L McCann’s law office was badly cut and bruised after slipping on freshly macadamized pavement near Market Street. He was helped into the law office to recover from the shock.
Winchester golfers teased a high Golf Club officer who injured his hands while daydreaming after a good stroke. He held a 48 point record and, while yawning, reenacted a swing and struck a chandelier, causing injuries and a humorous misfortune at home.
George T. Johnson a Frederick county native and longtime Clarke county resident of White Post died at home at seven this morning after a long illness. Funeral at Red Bud Church near Lake View on Saturday afternoon Rev. H. D. Skelton to officiate. He was about 69 and leaves a widow and seven children. He previously lived on the Shoemaker farm near Rippon West Virginia.
Mr. Jacob Baker reports his mare Nellie recovered from his farm stable theft. James Thomas, described as the colored boy, has been jailed on the case.
Mr. Dock Johnson leaves for Colorado to join his brother Edward and cousin Abner Dunlap who are already digging for gold.
The Winchester Dramatic Club formally organized after a Christmas production. Officers elected include R Gray Williams president and R T McGuire vice president. Club funds aim to support a bed in the Winchester Memorial Hospital and plan two entertainments yearly.
