Valley Route Feeder Supposed Rail Link From Lexington to Salem
Sources say a 60 mile rail line will be built from Lexington to Salem using the Valley route. The project aims to tap the Tidewater line and create a valuable feeder from Roanoke County’s coal region. Staunton parties seek to buy any Roanoke interest in the old Valley Route.

R J Gibbons aged 37 shot himself after leaving a letter admitting bigamy and declaring love for two wives. Wife No 1 and two young children are in Norfolk. wife No 2 married in Valdosta Georgia is said to be at a hotel in Atlanta. Gibbons, a former Methodist preacher, had been a traveling man for a Richmond firm.

County Man Hurt In Trolley Smash
Mr. C. H. Anderson of Falls Church Virginia High Schools was injured in a late night trolley accident while traveling from Washington to Falls Church. He was thrown through a car window, cut above the eye and nose leaving a lasting scar, and his right leg was injured. He was confined to bed for weeks and has since returned to duties.

Monster Bear Killed By Crippled Boy
Ernest Barclay aged 19 with one hand killed the largest bear seen in the region. The animal named ephant weighed over 800 pounds with a nine foot hide, eight inch fore foot spread and twelve inch head. It roamed east of the Alleghany mountains for 25 years raiding flocks and stock, defying many hunts before its death.

Clifton Goff, a 17 year old near Mount Williams in this county, remained in critical condition after a shotgun misfire while hunting. The gun snagged on a twig, exploded, and the load struck him in the back. doctors could not determine if the injuries would prove fatal.

Young Baby Shot by Older Girl in Maryland Farm Home
A two year old girl, daughter of farmer Win Pugh of Cedar Grove Maryland, died instantly from a revolver discharged by 12 year old Miss Bradly King who was visiting the home. The accident occurred when the gun was taken from a bureau drawer. Dr Deets arrived too late. The event is attributed to an accident.

Little Girl Drowns in cistern at Han cock boarding house
Ruth Webster three years old daughter of Rev J H Webster pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Hancock Maryland was found drowned in a cistern at the Wabash boarding house. A broken board cover led searchers to the body and despite attempts by Dr J A West to revive her she died. The accident occurred about two o clock while the child played in the yard and no one saw it. The town conducted a two hour search and the funeral was held Saturday afternoon.
