Hagerstown suffered hard luck as Fanwell out pitched Shiner. An error at a critical point cost two Winchester runs, despite Hagerstown leading earlier. Final score Winchester 4, Hagerstown 8 with strong play by both sides in extreme heat.
George Greenwalt, 58, died at his home in Hagerstown Maryland on Sunday afternoon after years of bedfast illness and four strokes. Survived by wife and children Mrs. Harry Murdock Waynesboro Mrs. Elmer Martz Hagerstown and Daisy at home. Funeral held in Hagerstown today at 3 o clock.
The Harrisonburg News notes the transfer of Division Engineer F J Bachelder to the Monongah division of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. It praises his many friends in the Valley and recalls his work sketching drawings for Mr Spurrier’s alleged new depot in Harrisonburg, describing him as a fine gentleman.

Winchester resident J Olin Faulkner has been elected principal of Onancock High School for the 1907 08 session. He will move to Onancock for the school year beginning September 9, praised for his Washington and Lee University training and strong credentials from university faculty.
The Ebenezer Association of the Primitive Baptist Church will hold a three days session with Brightwood Church in Madison County on August 23. The association comprises churches in Page Warren Clarke Shenandoah Frederick Rappahannock and Madison counties and has a large membership. It is attended each year by thousands of people who meet friends and renew acquaintances.
Mr Fred L Glaize and Mr D B Conrad city editor of The Star left for the Jamestown Exposition and Norfolk. Little Miss Virginia Hughes daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Hughes of Norfolk left for Romatt aeddle with Mrs D B Conrad at West Water Street. Mr and Mrs Silas Robinson and sons David and Ernest Robinson left for the Jamestown Exposition. Ernest is a civil engineer at West Point Military Academy. Capt John H Mickey a Cumberland Valley Railroad conductor left for Atlantic City for vacation.
The annual picnic of the Valley Union Sunday school is planned for Thursday August 22 at Clevenger’s Meadow. Young people anticipate a pleasant outing. Rev Dr J Gray McAllister visits Summit Point with Dr Osburn. Miss Helena Bittner of Philadelphia visits Mrs F J Farmer on South Kent Street.
Visitor Fred J. Harris, a noted peach grower with about 3000 trees on Berryville Pike, bring his limited harvest to town. He notes late and early frosts and unseasonable weather damaged many orchards, marking Frederick County’s decline in peach production this year.
Mr W E Hershberger returned to Newark Ohio after time with relatives and friends in the city. Mr W W Bowles Millswood Clarke county arrived to attend the horse show. he is a well known horseman. Mr Phillip Langley returned from Washington and Baltimore. Miss Madeline Wine arrived from Winchester to visit Miss Vada Whitesel during the harge show. Mr and Mrs Renner and daughter of Winchester visit Mr and Mrs Oliver Bentzel on Winchester avenue. Mr H O Hartzell, formerly with Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, spends days in Winchester.
Edgar Langley engineman injured at Strasburg Junction comes to town for medical care. Mrs. Kate L. Sheetz visits Romney West Virginia with relatives. Julia Woore returns from Loudoun County Virginia. Jack Stephenson, now in Pennsylvania, stops in to visit friends. Prof John H. Brown, ex Friendship Band director, now Mollet Organ Co general manager in Hagerstown, passes through Winchester en route to Harrisburg. Mr and Mrs F J Bachelder return from Wheeling to Graf ton West Virginia. Mrs Lucy Warner from South Market Street goes to Puisellsville Loudoun County for a big camp meeting. Henry L. Berkheimer, a Kernstown resident and Civil War veteran, died at his home after a two week illness. He was about 80. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 3:30 a.m. at his late residence. He was born in York county Pennsylvania and served in Company 2 of the 149th Pennsylvania Regiment, discharged at Harrisburg in 1865. He lived in Virginia for four decades and was married twice, leaving five daughters with his first wife Katharine Hoke and two sons and three daughters with his second wife Virginia Orndorff. He is survived by one brother, Lewis Berkheimer, in York county, Pa.
Western Union and Postal telegraphers strike expands across the country and cripples business. New York stock markets fall as wheat drops to 81 cents. Only 20 operators remain in New York City as death messages are sent by mail. Taft to sail for the Philippines on August 18 after cabinet meeting at Oyster Bay.
Rumor says George L. Potter, third vice president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, plans to resign in a few days. Thomas Fitzgerald, currently general manager, would succeed him, with Wales W. Gallowly as superintendent of the system.
Billy Duke a leading conductor on the Cumberland Valley Railroad transfers from Carlisle to Hagerstown to take a more desirable run. He and his wife will relocate and establish a home there.

The City School Board met last night with a quorum and accepted the resignation of Anita A. Hobson a longtime teacher at the female high school after 36 years in public and private education. A special meeting Thursday will elect her successor.
Services were held at the Winchester jail Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the Wee man's Christian Temperance Union. Rev. Lewis Gler delivered an address on prisoners and announced a mission to Japan.
A Brucetown message to The Star confirms Dr William J Best of Brucetown is in good health and fully able to attend to his medical practice. Friends in Winchester and Frederick County will be relieved that a circulated report of illness was incorrect.
Mrs Henry A Mandeville of New York and South Orange left Testes day after a brief visit to Miss Kath erine Glass. She traveled in her five touring car with kinsman Mr Walter Jameson of New Hampshire and an old chauffeur. The party went by Washington and Harper's Ferry and returned via Has Gerstown and Gettysburg praising the valley.
Dr. 8. P. Latane took little Paul Latham to Memorial Hospital late last night for an appendicitis operation. The operation was successful and the patient has a good chance to recover. Mrs. Alice Triplett and children of Alleghany City PA, visiting Mrs. Triplett, will return home tomorrow.
