John Ray of the Cli max Club was robbed at gunpoint Friday night in Lexington Florida. A stout man in a dark overcoat entered, talked briefly, then fired no shot and seized about $1,000 in coins and cash before fleeing down Lime Street. Police describe the suspect as a ruddy, clean shaven man. a swift arrest is anticipated.
Rain was light across the county with Winchester receiving the heaviest fall, enough to settle dust and help newly sown wheat and rye. Farmers anticipate a favorable season, though ponds and creeks remain dry. The drought has damaged crops this year, with corn, hemp, and tobacco expected to suffer despite some relief to wheat and rye.
The notice outlines supplemental registration in the three days before the election. Eligible persons prevented from registering may appear before the County Clerk to take an oath. Absence from the city or illness in the family are listed causes. The dates are October 26, 27, and 28, with clerk hours 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mrs Katherine McCreary wife of Senator James B McCreary died at her West Main street home in Richmond after two years of illness. She accompanied her husband to Frankfort Washington and Congress and was active in social circles. Survived by son Robert Hughes McCreary of Chicago. Funeral at 2 pm Thursday burial in Richmond cemetery at 3 pm with Rev Addison J Smith officiating. Pallbearers named including J A Sullivan J Tevis Cobb and others.
Mrs John G Winn of Mt Sterling and Mr Dave Prewitt of this city traveled by noon train Saturday to Richmond to attend the funeral of Mrs J B McCreary.
The teachers of division No 2 met Friday October 23 in subdivision 6 Tracy district. An instructive meeting was reported with all teachers present and responding heartily. Professors R M Shipp and H K Taylor delivered interesting addresses and praised Miss Clark and her patrons for their warm welcome and the lunch.
Officer John Ballard filmed a broke watch on Toohey brothers poultry yard catching Zack Martin, a colored man and employee, in the act of taking chickens and eggs. Martin had been trusted in multiple town jobs and previously deemed honest.
Mr. R. L. Thomas, the noted race horse owner from New York City, is spending a few days with his brother, Mr. W. R. Thomas, of this city.
Special to The News from New York reports Robertson won the Vanderbilt trophy race in a Locomobile with a time of four hours thirty four and two fifths seconds. Lytle finished second as a large crowd lined the Long Island course and safety measures prevented any accidents.
Paris Ky October 24 Indefinite postponement of a Commercial Club inquiry into passenger traffic at the Louisville and Nashville depot tied to a state commission hearing. The railroad plans major upgrades next spring including sixteen new tracks a new round house machine shops and a new passenger depot costing about 250000. The company has acquired thirteen acres from W A Bacon and the entire row of homes in Claysville to be removed for the expansion.
Transylvania University football hosts Berea this Saturday afternoon. Last season Transylvania won 27 to 0, but this year the matchup is expected to be closer with both teams seeking an early season momentum boost.
Silas McFarland of Iowa United States consul general at large for Europe shot and killed himself today aboard a railroad train from Hamburg.
Heavy drought has slowed the 1907 Burley tobacco pool with about half the samples shipped to the Burley Tobacco Society for grading. Crumbling tobacco due to dryness hindered handling, but recent general rains may allow full reception and processing of all samples in coming weeks. exact grading timing remains uncertain.
The Clark County Bryan Democratic Club held a meeting in the Court House on Saturday afternoon. The proceedings could not be learned as the meeting was not over when the News went to press.
New Orleans Oct 24 A bride Miss Rhorer daughter of Baton Rouge official and her husband Prof Fred Van Ingen of Alexandria were targets in a train attack. Beauve a Plaquemine suitor faced them from a seat and fired killing Van Ingen while the uncle defused the weapon Jailed Beauve 24 still under arrest with Miss Rhorer married only hours earlier.
Henry A Williams Ohio Republican leader said Taft will carry Ohio by at least 75000 and that the entire Republican ticket will be elected by a similar margin. Chairman Hitchcock planned a final West and Midwest conference in Chicago before returning to announce forecasts.

In New York the Morse Curtis trial disclosed three major developments. Prosecutors showed letters from Comptroller Ridgeley warning against large loans on unsubstantial collateral to Morse and Curtis. Evidence indicated a large loan to Morse secretary Katherine Wilson was partly funded by profits from the New Haven Improvement. The bank's Knickerbocker note of 200000 surfaced, later credited to Edward B. Wire at the Bank of Commerce, linking proceeds to the case.

In Lincolnville Oklahoma on October 24 three children Faye Cox aged 10 Eulah Cox aged 6 and Dora Knight aged 16 died when a fire destroyed the Coz boarding house. Newton Cox the children's father and Dora Knight's stepfather and manager and Walter Keith a boarder were badly burned in the kerosene explosion that started the blaze.
Rayville Louisiana on October 24 a jailbreak freed eight African American inmates amid a murder trial progress. Two clerks Allen Cook and Ernest Roy were accidentally shot during the ensuing chase as authorities pursued the escapees. In Lexington Kentucky on October 24 Mrs Nancy Murill was acquitted in the circuit court on a murder charge framed around the unwritten law. The trial drew men women and children to the sessions and many supported the defense with favorable testimony.
A jury did not return indictments against Mrs Stein and Mrs Bayard of Des Moines in the Stein Porter murder cases, finding the evidence insufficient for a charge. The October 24 report notes the lack of indictment and ongoing investigation.
