Mrs. Hargis travels with lawyers to Irvine for the murder trial of Beach Cargis. She has disclosed deposits and a mortgage to fund the defense while witnesses prepare to testify about alleged incidents surrounding the father’s death. Prosecution vows to expose perjury and contradict defense statements with a large legal team from Jackson Irvine and Winchester.
About sixty people from Jackson and eastern Kentucky traveling on the L and E line arrived in the city Tuesday morning to attend the murder trial of Beach Hargis for the death of a father.
The Blue Grass Baptist Association Board met at Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington with about 20 ministers. They discussed the paper The Pastor His Own Evangelist led by Rev. Green of Versailles and Dr. J. W. Porter. President Rev. T. B. Hill chaired the session. A future meeting was announced in Lexington.
Special Christmas services planned at the Washington Street Presbyterian Church next Sunday. Appropriate music has been arranged for the occasion.
A Tuesday morning fire on North Main Street caused about 2700 in losses at the residence of Mrs Creth Taylor and at Dr How ard Lyons office. The blaze started in a closet in the office and spread to the attic with water damage worsening the damage. Lyons loss estimated at 700 while Mrs Taylor's is 2000, both fully insured.
A Commercial Club meeting at the courthouse discussed the potential opening of a wholesale grocery by Mr. W. M. Black of Barbourville and Mr. Lane of Middleboro. They plan to locate somewhere in the region but have not decided. The discussion focused on location and shipping facilities to the eastern part of the state. no inducement was offered.
President Roosevelt sent a special message to Congress on the Panama Canal purchase and accompanying documents. He replies to recent charges about canal property acquisition and the full message will be printed in tomorrow's paper.

A baby boy was born Tuesday morning to Mr and Mrs Jas Kranklin. The notice mentions Mansfield's Best Patent flour from Mansfield's Flour Mills in Winchester Kentucky and advertises Vic Bloomfield's store opening every night from now until after Christmas.

Clark County Equity Warehouse announces that growers with 10 percent reserve from the July 1908 distribution may call at the office for 80 percent of the ten percent reserve. Recipients must present the 1906 contract to receive funds.
Robbers broke into the store of S. D. Chism at Pilot View Monday night and took about sixty cents in pennies, a dozen scissors, twenty pocket knives, sacks of flour, and other small items. Red pepper was scattered around the store and along the path toward Hedges Station to mislead investigators.
The Burley Tobacco Society executive committee met in regular session on Tuesday afternoon. It was reported that no items beyond routine business would be presented.
H. M. Benton acting for James H. Rutledge sold the 115 acre farm on the McClure pike to John and Martin Peters for 9600 dollars.
