State Police report a six year old, Ray Gibson Jr., was struck on the Martinsburg Winchester Pike between Bunker Hill and Ridgeway. Marshall McCauley of Winchester said the child stepped from behind his parents stopped car and was hit. he removed the boy to a Winchester hospital where injuries were described as a broken leg and bruises. Police say witnesses corroborate the driver’s account and the father had stopped to repair the vehicle.

Thaws Country Home Hit By Oil Fire At Kennilworth
Oil from a leaking storage line saturated the Florsheim era Kennilworth residence of Harry K Thaw near Stephenson causing smoke and soot throughout the first floor and upper rooms. Firefighters battled the blaze as Thaw aided by guests including Mrs Murphy and J Ridgley the party paused for photos and resumed dining after the danger subsided. Robert Knight 20 son of Mr and Mrs J Robert Knight of Frederick county is in critical condition at Memorial Hospital from a skull fracture and internal injuries after his car crashed into a culvert at Stephens City while touring toward Winchester. Rowles and a woman left the car momentarily for purchases and Knight reportedly drove off. Rowles then asked police to stop him. The car was demolished and Knight is unconscious with no information on the cause.

Funeral Services At Front Royal For Roy Smith
Funeral services were held at 3 pm in the Front Royal Presbyterian Church for Roy Smith 32 killed Saturday near the bridge on the Front Royal Winchester highway. Rev H W Shannon conducted the service and burial was at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Smith rode a bicycle behind a truck when a dip caused him to be thrown over the embankment breaking his neck. He died en route or on arrival at a physician later. Born in Chicago he moved to Front Royal five years ago and worked as a weaver at Schwarzenbach Huber Silk Mill. He is survived by his widow L Virginia Compton and three young children.
