A Wa bash passenger train bound for Chicago from St Louis derailed after sideswiping a local switcher at Morrisonville Illinois near noon yesterday. Eleven people were injured and track repairs were expected to take about 18 hours.
Vice President Richard M Nixon proposed an expanded soil bank and a long term price support system based on prior crop price averages. He outlined a six point program to limit surpluses and expand land retirement, presented at the National Plowing Contest in Sioux Falls. He did not specify crop levels or details, but urged a dynamic farm progress strategy.

He denounced Eisenhower over the U2 incident and warned that continued U.S. actions could trigger a third world war.
New York AP report as President Eisenhower receives loud ovations from thousands outside the Waldorf Astoria before departing for Washington after addressing the U.N. General Assembly. He urged world leaders to seek peace through the United Nations and waved from an open car along 5th Street toward Idlewild Airport before a 11:19 departure.
