Five Winchester residents hurt in Hammond crash en route to Chicago fair
Five travelers from Winchester and nearby West Virginia heading to the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago suffered injuries in a Hammond Indiana collision. Harry Hiett of Capon Bridge suffered a probable skull fracture and remained serious. Miss Gertrude Ward also of Capon Bridge fractured arm and jaw. Second Victim Is Claimed Here By Diphtheria
Diphtheria claimed its second victim within the past week when John Lewis ten year old son of Mrs Bessie Lewis Carper died at his grandmother’s home on Highland Avenue. He is survived by his mother three half brothers and two half sisters. Funeral rites were held this afternoon at the R T Jones funeral parlors on South Loudoun street conducted by Rev Robert B Campbell pastor of Highland Avenue Presbyterian Chapel. Burial followed in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
