Governor John Battle will address dedication exercises at James Wood High School at 2 pm Friday September 29 announced by County Superintendent Robert Ayler. The new 1 million school plant consolidates county high schools and opened this fall with 32 classrooms 15 labs and shops 7 offices 10 special rooms 9 music and clinic rooms an auditorium library gym and cafeteria. The project cost 877740 plus equipment funded by an $800 000 literary loan and local building levy.

Fire damages large brake shoe plant oven
A fire at the American Brake Shoe Company plant on Paper Mill Rd seriously damaged a 125000 dollar oven after a conveyor breakdown sparked fluids in brake lining compounds. Fire crews from four Winchester companies fought the blaze, with engineers en route to assess repairs and return to full operation within two weeks.

Anti Cruelty Group Plans Hire Part Time Agent

Dr Sanders Hunts His Missing Nurse in Hooksett
In Hooksett New Hampshire 50 firemen and volunteers searched the woods for Helen A Maciolek 25 the nurse of Dr Hermann Nander who vanished after leaving home with her dog. Dr Sanders who was acquitted of murder last March joined the search saying she had been emotionally upset for two or three days. The father reported she returned briefly then left toward the woods with a dog.

Milldale man sentenced to five years for assaulting station operator
Charles Nelson Curry 32 of Milldale was sentenced to five years in the penitentiary after pleading guilty to felonious assault against Mary W. Stoehr at Sun Dial Service Station east of Winchester on Old Route 50. Curry drove to the station August 10, ordered gas and oil, drank a soda, then struck the woman with an empty bottle. He was arrested August 30 by Deputy Henry Renner and Sheriff W. W. Smallwood. The case was presented by Commonwealth’s Attorney Joseph Massie Jr. and Curry was represented by William Armstrong Jr. of Front Royal.
