Fire destroys Washington state penitentiary main building
Walla Walla Washington September 4 A fire last night destroyed the main building of the state penitentiary including two central cell blocks and dining hall. Officials say a convict started the blaze after officials say a burning object was hurled into a ventilating fan. 975 prisoners were moved to the recreation yard with guards and National Guard assisting to prevent disorder. No injuries reported and damage placed at about $100.
