Glass Homeplace Fort on the Opequon Photo Feature

The Baltimore Sun shows a photo-engraving of the Robert Glass homeplace at Opequon Frederick County. The site began with Robert Glass who arrived in 1732 and settled on 920 acres. The stone house was built by his son and served as a fort in 1755. During the Civil War General Custer used the homestead as headquarters and visited with his bride. Six generations of the Glass family have lived at Long Meadows, now owned by Mrs. W. D. Simmons.
