First Officer John Black of White Post rose from a child obsessed with model planes to a United Airlines co pilot and plane owner. He built a basement DC 6 replica as a teen, served in Civil Air Patrol, trained Navy pilots, and later joined United in 1966 while owning three aircraft at his White Post airfield.
