A string of quick violent storms swept the Eastern Seaboard from Virginia to Massachusetts with gusts up to 110 mph causing seven deaths. The storms toppled trees and damaged buildings as trains and power systems faltered. At Sydney Airport a 110 mph gust blew a house trailer killing 73 year old Mrs Ethel Goble though she escaped with minor injuries.
