Federal agents draw their revolvers when a crowd attacks a police unit in an incident that interrupted a secured area. The confrontation prompted safeguards and a temporary halt to operations by the force guarding the scene.
A Saturday protest in the Main Street area erupted when Prohibition Agent James L. Asher and Deputy Rhodes faced a mob led by Aulick Gibbons and Roy Shiner. Gibbons and Shiner are charged with assaulting a federal officer conspiracy and inciting to riot. Police arrested the pair as the crowd dispersed and traffic resumed.
The first of the Zane Grey Paramount productions opens at the Empire today for a two day engagement at popular prices. The film promises to please every movie patron, and is billed as as good as The Covered Wagon, which will arrive soon.
Richmond VA Oct 19 The bond issue campaign sees little political crossfire as Sen H F Byrd and Sen John Paul address a Harrisonburg mass meeting urging Republicans to join Democrats in voting against bonds. Paul argues bonds are not political and would burden all property owners.

A cave of unknown extent was found two miles west of Middletown when a horse belonging to RK Boyer fell into a crevice in a plowed field. Rescuers lowered ropes and poles. the horse had to be shot after rescue attempts failed, and workers descended to 30 to 30 feet to inspect subterranean chambers.

Paul Sawyer of Morgan County West Virginia, tied to Frederick County, was killed when a motor truck he drove ran off a road two miles from Berkeley Springs and plunged 40 feet down an embankment. The burning vehicle was witnessed by Mrs Seymour Bohrer from her window. Mel Bohrer rushed to raise the alarm after the crash. Continued on page 7.
Robert Jenkins and Millard Kane, local jitneymen, were arrested by federal prohibition agents for violating the federal prohibition act. They face arraignment before United States Commissioner Philip Williams. The arrest brings the total to sixteen in the area for violations of federal and state prohibition laws.
