On a northbound United Utilities bus about 3 miles north of Staunton a sailor leaped through a bus window shouting the boat is sinking. He was rushed back into the vehicle, taken to Staunton hospital with probable skull fracture, while driver Glenn Coakley continued to Winchester.
Virginia bankers at a Richmond conference reported subscriptions exceeding 2.5 million toward a 5 million pool for the National Credit Corporation. Julian H. Hill announced progress as banks, including First National Bank of Lynchburg, pledge to support the plan to ease credit shortages.

Austin Farmer jailed for failure to pay a $4 court cost after Edward Knighting was found not guilty on a theft charge. Knighting was charged with stealing an overcoat suit and cigarettes. Farmer remained jailed until he pays or serves time estimated at eight days, marking a rare instance of incarceration for nonpayment of costs.
Company I of the 116 Virginia Infantry will stage an Apple Harvest Carnival at Winchester Fair Grounds from October 22 to 31. Curtis L. Bocku Attractions and representative F Stanley Reed announced five free circus acts nightly at 9 30 o’clock along with four tent shows rides and other amusements. Rev. Dr. T. Clagett Skinner of Lynchburg arrives in Winchester and preaches the first sermon at First Baptist Church. He will conduct daily services at the church through Wednesday October 28, staying at the George Washington Hotel. Rev. E. T. Clark invites friends to visit him by appointment.
