State to Give Its Cooperation in Lynching Case

Princess Anne Maryland October 19 The state county and circuit court district launched investigations into last nights lynching of George Armwood a Negro charged with attacking an aged white woman Governor Ritchie ordered Attorney General Lane to take charge. He secured detectives from Baltimore and ordered the state police to cooperate. He blamed local officials and urged bringing mob leaders to court. The governor said local officials administer justice while the state aids. He emphasized primary responsibility lies with Somerset County officials and said he would assist with criminal proceedings and dispatch detectives from Baltimore City. The governor noted criminal investigation rests with local authorities and custody of prisoners with local officials. He said he called Captain Johnson to aid as needed. Continued on page eight.
