General Electric announces a late 1974 start for a 126 acre Kernstown site south of Winchester to manufacture household bulbs. The $20 million project will employ 300 to 400 after two years, with production aimed at the Eastern Seaboard. Milton Patterson named plant manager of the Virginia facility.
Fire Chief W. J. Humes says the $250000 damage estimate for a two story office building fire in Harrisonburg will likely stand after 75 firefighters battled the blaze for nearly five hours. The blaze started from faulty wiring near the first floor center and spread above a false ceiling, threatening nearby clothing and department stores.
