In Houston the first vice presidential debate drew sharp exchanges between Bob Dole and Walter Mondale. Dole teased Carter and pressed fiscal issues while Mondale accused Republicans of unresolved economic problems. The two shook hands at the end and headed to separate campaign events.
Syrian tanks assaulted the mountain village of Aley near Beirut while artillery sealed Sidon port cutting the guerrillas’ food and arms supply. In Sidon 20 rockets hit four miles east of the town. the Greek freighter Christos was struck, killing four and wounding two.
Chip Carter will visit Winchester Tuesday evening, announced by area Democrats. About 130 people attended a breakfast for Attorney General Andrew Miller at the Holiday Inn East. Miller heads to Front Royal for the Festival of or with wife Dick Carter planning a public reception at Lee-Jackson at 6:30 p.m. James Earl Carter born 1950 in Honolulu attended Georgia schools, served on Plains City Council in 1974, resigned 1975 to aid his father's campaign.
Front Royal hosts the sixth annual Festival of Leaves with events across E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School Union Hall and nearby streets.
