Former Senator A Willis Robertson told the Staunton Kiwanis Club that the proposed $50 million bond plan would be costly and burden future funds. He disputed George P Coleman’s estimates, arguing that interest and purchasing value erode the bond’s value and that funds should rather support road maintenance. The discussion centered on mileage remaining and the balance between bond money and state maintenance allocations.

The Frederick County Circuit Court ruled that timber and sawed lumber valued over two thousand dollars, contracted with Charles H. Harper, remains Harper's property until paid. Creditors of Edward C. White had attached the property, claiming White planned to leave the state, but the court dismissed the attachments as White did not intend permanent domicile. A docketed contract reserving title to Harper prevailed over White's creditors, determining the timber and lumber belong to Harper and not to be used for White's debts.
The funeral for J. Carson Yeakley, who died at Memorial Hospital, was held at his Highland avenue home with a large turnout. A Sarah Zane Fire Company delegation attended, honoring his years as a member and former driver of the horse drawn fire apparatus. The Rev. A. A. Kelley and Rev. George W. Stover led services. pallbearers included Robert S. Smith and others. Interment followed at Mount Hebron Cemetery. he leaves a brother Martin Yeakley of Dayton, Ohio.

In Pana Illinois six men died and three injured after drinking poison liquor described as whiskey color in two soft drink parlors. Basil Waugh and Feolah Felisky were hospitalized with Tokoly reported blind. father John Tokoly denies selling liquor. Chicago reports say poison in eight of ten liquor samples from raids. Bundesen cites at least 2000 U S deaths this year.

The 1923 Virginia State Bar Association convention is expected to be held in Winchester if the new George Washington Hotel opens by early summer. An authoritative source says hotel management will be consulted soon to confirm completion and opening. Winchester has not hosted the association in years, but lawyers state wide favor a meeting there if the hotel is ready.

Mr and Mrs Robert Fy Bett depart on an extended trip to Falls and Canada with stops in Moi Quebec and other border cities. They plan to return to New York where Mrs Brill presides over the grand lodge of the Patriotic America. The grand lodge meeting will be in October with Winchester members attending as delegates including Virginia Anderson Miss Pearl Purtlebaugh and Drs Oe Mason among others.
The Federated Bible classes of Winchester plan a joint meeting at Marke Methodist Episcopal Church and Empire Theatre on Sunday October 14. It marks the first meeting since reorganization and will begin at 3 PM. All men in the city are invited to attend. Rev Dr Dee of Philadelphia will deliver the principal address.
