Pledge By U S Renewed As Vietnam War Seeps On
Acting ambassador Samuel D Berger renewed Washingtons pledge to help South Vietnam wage the war on its own. At the river boats transfer to the Vietnamese navy Berger said progress toward US goals stated by President Nixon and noted the navy is becoming larger and more capable. The transfer leaves the Vietnamese navy responsible for about half the river patrols in the allied effort. US Navy has turned over 229 craft since 1968 with 321 more due in nine months. The aerial arm also reports another helicopter squadron fully operational, fourth of its kind. Casualties remain light amid minor clashes. A US Air Force jet overshot in an emergency at Nha Trang, killing three Vietnamese civilians and an American soldier. Nichols Discount Department Stores at Winchester says no plans to open Sundays citing Virginia blue laws as vague and discriminatory.

Rehearing Granted To State Bar Unit
A petition by the Seventh District Committee of the Virginia State Bar to rehear the matter of furnishing meeting minutes to attorney E Eugene Gunter was granted by Judge Elliott D Marshall. The rehearing is set for 2 p m Monday in Corporation Court. Gunter filed an affidavit on Sept 30 claiming the documents contain material evidence in the suit seeking his disbarment for unprofessional conduct in 1968 custody proceedings. He is to appear before a three judge court on Nov 6 and 7 in Frederick County Court House to show cause why he should not be disbarred.
