Former Governor Davis attacks Senator Byrd over the Valley Turnpike bill which removed toll gates and moved maintenance to the state. The infant son of Clyde and Mrs. Holliday died Wednesday at 1 10 p m after illness. He leaves a brother Herbert Holliday and his grief stricken parents. Pallbearers were uncles Bernard Melvin Owen and Charlie Holliday. Flowers arrived from Hartford and Chambersburg. Rev Charles Adey of the First Baptist Church officiated.

A defense motion to demur to indictments against 218 union coal miners over the Cliftonvale mine riot on July 17 was overruled. Judge Somerville ruled the murder indictment sufficient and that seven charges of voting and related state offenses had adequate material. Sheriff H H Duval of Brooke county was killed and six miners died in the Cliftonville battle.
Dr John M Brewer Harvard vocational guidance expert leads a series of classes at the Winchester High School to advance vocational guidance in local schools. A daily synopsis will run in The Star and a parents meeting at Handley Library Thursday will feature Dr Brewer speaking. Winchester cites Brewer as a leading authority in vocational education.

Robert Hunter Hardesty of Clarke county won the grand championship over all exhibitors at the Virginia state fair in Richmond for boys and girls chub pigs. He also took first and second in Hampshire junior pig classes plus Hampshire championship. Other Clarke Warren and Rappahannock youths won various prizes as 97 pigs were shown. prizes totaled 177.50 dollars. County Agent Crawford organized the Clarke Warren and Rappahannock entries and accompanied shipping from Berryville to Richmond.
The Barton building at 107 109 111 and 118 West Water street was sold at public auction to J H Henry for 10830 dollars. Auctioneer A G Swanson conducted the sale for Barton trustees under deeds of trust by George A Butler. The three story brick structure west of Rouss Fire Company includes two ground floor storerooms and upper apartments.
