President Wilson arrives at Shadow Lawn early this morning after a trip to Omaha. He tells reporters on the train that he did not surrender on the 8 hour dispute and that he intervened. German ambassador Bernstorff is expected at Shadow Lawn Monday to deliver a Kaiser letter on Polish relief.
Police Justice W L Fultz announced plans to hold a daily police court session at 8 30 in the morning in City Hall except Sundays. The fixed hour aims to convenience both court officials and those with business, hearing all cases from the previous 24 hours. The report also notes several local arrivals and hotel registrations by visitors, including Mr Richard E Griffith Mr W H S Nelson Mr E D Taylor and Mr J T Shoat.
Ennis P. Pennington 32, unmarried and son of Dr. R. B. Pennington of Stanardsville Virginia, died when a Buick roadster overturned on the Elkton pike five miles east of Harrisonburg. Companion Marshal Powell was badly bruised. Coroner ruled no inquest.

The remains of Mrs. Pat Moore Dearing of Flint Hill in Rappahannock county were interred today in the Hundley family graveyard after dying at Winchester Memorial Hospital from surgical operation effects. A relative of the late A Willis Dearing, he left about $1,000,000 to relatives, and Mrs. Dearing is said to have inherited a large portion. Mrs. Dearing, formerly Miss Moore of Rappahennock, was in the eighty sixth year.
The Star prints the seventh installment of the prohibi tion measure passed by the last Virginia General Assembly. It bars delivering or using ardent spirits in places believed to be houses of prostitution and forbids evasion devices. Violations bring misdemeanor or felony penalties. Stray notice for Hampshire near Winchester offers a reward.
The Harrisonburg fair saw consistent winners from Mr. and Mrs. William Mayo Atkinson of Clarke County and New York. In Thursday’s races Jack Hanover won first, Gambler took second, and Flat Foot finished third. Jack Hanover and Gambler are owned by Mr. Atkinson while Flat Foot is owned by Mrs. Atkinson.
A party of seven from Singers Glen starts a six months motor journey from Harrisonburg to Lima Ohio and Brooklyn Iowa. The group includes Mr and Mrs John W Ritchie two sons in law Joan Dove and Ward Fahrney and their baby. The two Ford cars carry bedding clothing food and home comforts for the long trip passing through Winchester this morning.

Miss Shiney Woodland of Gloucester County Virginia arrived in Winchester to take charge of the Mount Airy public school at Fawcett Gap. The school will open for the term on Monday and she will reside with Mr and Mrs T F Fawcett during the county’s educational work. Mrs Bertie Anderson left today for Hast Orange New Jersey after visiting relatives in the city.
Rev. N F A Cupp formerly of this city visited relatives in Berkeley Springs West Virginia and stayed last night with Rev and Mrs George W Stover at the United Brethren Church parsonage on North Avenue before returning to Singers Glen Virginia. His wife and young daughter were to join relatives at Berkeley Springs for some time. Mrs Harry H Whigfield left for Woodstock Virginia to spend several days with friends.
Washington October 7 The State Department denied reports that Ambassador Gerard was delivering peace overtures from the German Emperor to President Wilson The department said there is no reason to think there is any truth to the reports and every reason to believe there is nothing in them
Negotiations between American and Mexican commissioners ended their deadlock as Mexico agreed to a border protection plan without demanding U S troop withdrawal. Washington and Mexico City received tentative proposals for approval before final agreement. US forces are expected to carry the heaviest border patrol workload.
Mr. C. H. Chandler of Montgomery Alabama, former resident and cabinetmaker long associated with John Kerr, spent days with his niece Mrs. Asa Crisman in Kernistown Frederick county and renewed old ties in Worcester. He noted improvements in Winchester since his departure and plans to return to Alabama after visiting Strasburg.
The annual reception of M C Kennedy president of Cumberland Valley Railroad Co is held at Ragged Edge near Chambersburg Pa with 250 to 300 guests. Kennedy hosts include top railroad officials and distinguished professionals from the north east and south and many Winchester friends. Some visitors came on special trains. Mrs Joseph B F Stegner and son depart for Newark N J after visiting her father George A Windel.
