Dr. Fadhil Jamali of Iraq called the Sunday Warsaw conference manifesto a declaration of war an ideological war. The U N atmosphere soured as delegates privately feared a setback to collective security with some recalling events from 1938.
Soviet journalist Ilya Ehrenburg said Soviet writers, once friendly to the United States, must now speak out against American hostility. He accused W. Averell Harriman of misrepresenting the Soviet Union and warned that the U.S. may push for war despite Soviet peace aims. He noted Russians once admired American culture and figures like Jack London but cautioned Americans see us differently up close.

William H Caselden 48 was held without bail in Billerica Mass for the murder of 90 pound neighbor Roberta Dunn 23. State Lieutenant James Conniff said Caselden confessed striking her in a drunken rage after a loan request. He said I put my hands on her throat and pulled her into a cellar. The incident occurred October 6.
