Mrs Mary Catherine Emerson widow of George Emerson died at 2:00 this morning at 136 North Washington Winchester home of her granddaughter Mrs W Ralph Pifer. Born January 25 1852 in Louisville Kentucky she lived in Minneapolis before moving to Winchester after her husband’s death. Funeral Thursday at 2 PM from the Pifer residence with Rev Preston Sartelle officiating. interment Mount Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers named.
Richmond Va October 3 An inquiry into religious instruction in Harrisonburg public schools and Rockingham county has been ordered by diocesan authorities of the Roman Catholic Church. The probe grew from the state Holy Name Society convention where reports said the Harrisonburg Ministerial Union sought control of school activity. The assembly told diocesan leaders to investigate and act if needed. Catholic children in Harrisonburg and Rockingham public schools are numerous. Resolutions criticizing Ambassador Josephus Daniels of Mexico for Catholic remarks and endorsing higher types of moving pictures were also adopted.
