The City filed its petition on Sept 25 seeking annexation, following an Aug 8 council ordinance.
Charles Town W Va Shenandoah Downs mutuel employees strike enters its second week as the track cancels Monday night program. General Manager Robert G Leavitt says officials are pursuing all fronts to start the track s 72 night Fall Meeting on Tuesday.
In Paris, Communists and allied leftists scored gains in regional council elections, tripling Communist seats to 119 more than 1961 and lifting overall Communist representation to 175 as Gaullists also gained. Non Communist leftists won 66 seats, the vote reflecting discontent with De Gaulle reforms and social security charges. Observers noted weak local organization by the Gaullists and broad left cooperation in runoff.
Ex Governor George C. Wallace toured Virginia with seven speeches predicting law changes in 1968 while courting presidential prospects. He attacked judges and federal probes, urged strict policing, and urged local school self determination. In Blacksburg his rally at Virginia Tech Coliseum drew 5,600 attendees with 25 cent tickets, netting about $800.
Weekend incidents left two people with minor injuries in the surrounding area. Jeffrey Grim, 5, of 27 E James St was hit at James and Cameron Streets near 5 p.m. Saturday and treated for facial and head lacerations before release. Hazel Bean, 40, of 1327 Valley Ave was struck by a car she rode in while trying to stop a taxicab at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, treated for minor shock and released. Emmanuel Bean, 47, of Flint Hill, faces DUI charges in the Bean incident. A separate PalMall Street collision involved a parked car owned by Jack Owens and a vehicle owned by David Lee Roberts. the other driver is unknown.

Hatfield praises Gavin as a thoughtful military voice while Gavin plans a Vietnam visit to assess the war’s impact. Johnson to halt bombing if it speeds peace talks in 1968 primaries.
The U S Command says B52 raids last week caused heavy damage in the DMZ area near Con Thien. Seven raids in four days produced 110 secondary explosions and nine fires, aimed at easing pressure on the Marine outpost.
Firecrackers lit up Kenmore Square as about 4,000 fans flooded Fenway Park area after Boston defeated Minnesota 5-3 to clinch the pennant and California’s win over Detroit eliminated a playoff. Police struggled to control revelers as BU aides helped disperse crowds. The World Series opens at Fenway against the St. Louis Cardinals.
