President Roosevelt arrived in Ephrata Washington and prepared for a two hour drive to the Grand Coulee dam amid crowd attention. He received full military honors at Fort Lewis and continued toward the dam to inspect progress on the dam project.
Two out of state truckers Earl C. Ellifritz from Maryland and Thomas E. Gulick from West Virginia were fined 50 dollars plus costs after hearings before Trial Justice A. J. Tavenner. State Officer R. Miss Mary Anna Griffith, last of a prominent Frederick County family, died of a heart attack yesterday at Friends Hospital in Philadelphia at age 86. She was born November 29, 1850, raised near Winchester, educated in Winchester and Pennsylvania, and affiliated with the Friends and Loudoun Street Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held Sunday in Winchester at 4:30 PM with interment in Mount Hebron. Pallbearers include local figures Richard Griffith and others.
The Shenandoah Area Council Boy Scouts executive committee will meet tomorrow at 3 PM in Strasburg Virginia. President Fred D. Mahphas will preside and Dan Henry Scout Executive will discuss plans for the council wide Finance campaign.
GREEN GIVES A GLIMPSE OF PLAN Charters of Ten Leading C I O Unions Probably Will Be Revoked By the Federation. William Green outlined AFL war plans: split the movement from C I O, revoke ten C I O unions charters, invade C I O territory, and mount a public campaign attacking John L. Lewis as a dictator. The plan targets coal, clothing, textile, oil, and mining unions with allied groups.
Bishop Arthur J. Moore arrives for the Baltimore conference opening Wednesday. He presides over ten conferences, seven abroad, with much of his area in the war zone in the Far East. He preaches at 11 40 daily during sessions and is the youngest bishop at 49. Born December 26, 1888 in Waycross Georgia, he married Mattie T. McDonald on April 26, 1906. they have five children.
H. B. McCormac of Winchester, a leading industrialist and banker, has been seriously ill with a heart ailment for two weeks and is reported today to be about as usual, with his condition perhaps a touch worse.
President Roosevelt, greeted by Eastern Washington crowds, departs at 10:05 a.m. to tour the Grand Coulee Dam project by road, en route from Ephrata to the works.
Dr Allan Roy Dafoe announced that starting October 10 the Dionne quintuplets will be shown once daily for a half hour each morning. Afternoon showings will end to allow more sleep for the children.

Mrs Franklin D. Roosevelt wife of the President leaves New York for Hyde Park to rest for several days before returning to Washington.
Seventeen United States senators and representatives left Los Angeles for Hawaii to assess the territory’s suitability for statehood. The 26 day trip is funded by the Hawaiian legislature.
Frederick County Teachers Association President R A Wall announces a 9 o’clock Monday meeting in the courthouse to finalize school opening plans and elect delegates to the Virginia Education Association in Richmond in November. Speakers include Miss Lillian Oakes, Mrs Helen Wright, Andrew Bell, R E Ayler, Miss Anne Preston Starling, Leslie D Kline, and Pearl Stickley.
In Geneva on October 1 the Sino Japanese sub-committee weighed a lengthy League of Nations history of the Far Eastern crisis. Officials expect no recommendations before Monday and favor cautious use of sanctions. Dr. V K Wellington Koo urged declaring Japan guilty of aggression, but members fear triggering the sanctions mechanism.
Annapolis authorities consider moving Reverdy Johnson house to St. John's College campus to preserve its colonial heritage. The city gave the house to the telephone company with a deadline to relocate by November 1. A local DAR chapter urged delaying action for state group input while an offer to move to Chevy Chase was rejected. The mayor will host a Friday meeting to decide. Reverdy Johnson, born in Annapolis, served as U.S. attorney general and senator, and as minister to England. His grandson, Col. Edward C. Johnson, once ran the Taylor Hotel in Winchester.
Peggie Wood seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Lovell Wood of Front Royal is in serious condition at Memorial Hospital after being struck by a truck yesterday on the south edge of Front Royal. She received severe cuts and bruises but no internal or head injuries reported though her condition remained serious.
