The National Safety Council reported a 12 percent fall in October traffic fatalities to 3,450, the lowest October toll since 1949 and reversing a 19 month rise. The improvement, credited to drivers and public officials, keeps 1956 totals from climbing toward record highs.
President Eisenhower named Tracy S. Voorhees to coordinate the Hungarian refugee program and study whether more than 5 000 should be admitted. Hagerty said Voorhees will serve without pay and work with Scott McLeod to set up effective relief machinery. The first groups have arrived at Camp Kilmer New Jersey since November 21.
Gov Stanley and the State Treasury Board will meet to discuss Virginia school bond sale difficulties. A New York meeting with bond attorneys and bankers is planned. Proposals to use retirement funds to back school bonds are considered.

Both legislature chambers are Republican dominated.
