Battaile Heads Jamestown 350th Anniversary Commission

William M. Battaile was elected chairman of the Winchester Frederick Jamestown 350th Anniversary Commission at a meeting in the George Washington Hotel. Cold Weather Sweeps Broad East With Snow Flurries

The Associated Press reports cold air across the Eastern half of the nation with clear skies in the West. Snow flurries extended from the Great Lakes to Tennessee and Virginia while rain showers touched Vermont to the coast. Oklahoma and Arkansas saw the largest temperature drops as readings ran about 12 degrees lower. A Linea Aeropostal Venezolana Constellation flying from New York to Caracas crashed into a clouded peak near Maiquetia airport killing 25 people including 15 adults 2 infants and the crew of seven. Search parties recovered the charred remains atop 6000 foot mountains in Boca Chica area. The last radio contact reported the plane ten minutes from landing at 8 05 am.
