A 5:25 p.m. fire destroyed the Willingham store structure and adjoining house, gutted another home, damaged a service station roof, and sent Thomas Green to Winchester Memorial Hospital with burns. Fire crews from Boyce and Berryville fought the flames for hours amid water shortages and hazards, with Kent’s office records destroyed and Green surviving in satisfactory condition.
