Pilot Blamed For Hillsboro Airplane Crash
The Civil Aeronautics Board found the Capital Airlines DC4 crash near Hillsboro Virginia was caused by the pilot descending below the 3000 foot minimum in bad weather. A faulty clearance from Washington air traffic control was a contributing factor. Captain Horace Stark, 46, of Arlington led the flight from Pittsburgh to Washington. all 50 aboard died in the June 13 wreck between Charles Town and Hillsboro during a rainstorm.
