Local readers urged to contribute to the MCA War Fund as volunteers rally support and urge families to donate. The solicitation emphasizes community duty and patriotic giving to support service members and war relief efforts.
Plans for a Sunday afternoon rally at the Empire Theatre to support the war fund of the Y M C A are underway. Jesse ce Adkins, a Washington lawyer, and a British soldier will speak with lantern slides by J Crosby McCarthy, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, who also served on the Mexican border. The event aims to boost Frederick county and Winchester contributions toward a 4100 county-city allotment as soldiers abroad benefit from Y M C A work.
Berlin reports suggest the imperial government may push peace overtures to the Entente within two months leveraging Russia and Italy turmoil. Petrograd Bolsheviks possibly forming a coalition with maximalists to seek an armistice before Christmas while fighting rages noted in Petrograd. A separate dispatch says Kerensky forces gain momentum though the fleet may have shifted to Bolsheviks. Sale notice for livestock and farm tools listed for White Post on November 27.

U S troops with machine guns guard the border at Presidio Texas to stop raids by Villa forces in Ojinaga Chihuahua. Villa, possibly at San Antonio near Ojinaga, is said to plan attacking Juarez while his men reportedly control a stretch of Chihuahua.
Orders from Adjutant General W W Sale set the final increment of draft men to report for the new national army at Camp Lee Virginia. Twelve men from Winchester Frederick county form the last quota eight white four colored named Butler Linwood Long Haines Fletcher Orndorff Ritter Guthridge Newcome Armstead Turner Giles and others with towns Winchester Middletown Stephens City Arme Santa unknown.
The funeral for the late Mrs. Mary S Boxwell wife of Charles H Boxwell will be held Sunday at 2 30 pm from the Bailey home on North Main Street The services will be led by Rev Dr George S Bowers Grace Lutheran Church burial follows at Mount Hebron Cemetery Active pallbearers are Charles P McVicar C L Robinson C W Ramsburg Robert L Gray J Cooper William B Ryan E Huntsberry and J Henry Moline Sr Honorary pallbearers include Dr G R Anderson Dr A C Swimley J L Maphis L C Janney Harry M Baker Dr J L Whitlock T J Ornder 1 Thomas S Hancher George W Kurtz and Frank Grove.

The War Library fund has received contributions from J. W. Baker Jr a Friend. The fund is vital for military camps and remains far from complete. Frederick county and Winchester residents are urged to send contributions promptly to finish the local allotment.

L A Singhass son of Mr and Mrs James B Singhass and Beulah Virginia Pritchard daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Pritchard were married at the bride’s parents home near Opequon. The ceremony was conducted by Rev E W Brubaker and followed by a wedding breakfast before a motor trip to Washington and Baltimore.
Dr H A Garfield federal fuel administrator warns Americans of a 50 million ton coal shortage unless all users cut consumption. He cites wartime demand and war industry needs boosting coal use by 100 million tons with output up 50 million, leaving a 60 million ton gap to bridge by conservation. drastic cuts for non essential industries urged amid car shortages. City Treasurer WM. T. Barr reminds taxpayers that state and poll taxes are due with a 5 percent penalty for late payment. The notice lists due period dates and urges prompt payment to avoid penalties.

The local corporation lists James P Reardon as president and invites the public to the grand opening with souvenirs for ladies.
The Mahlon Johnson home two miles east of Ridgeway West Virginia burned early this morning. Johnson saved his wife and children from the second floor fire with burns, while neighbors aided the fleeing family in night clothes. No insurance covered the loss.
Fragmented Allied dispatches describe German attempts to seize trenches repulsed by American artillery and infantry. Casualties among Germans reported with unclear American losses, while messages note artillery exchanges and no confirmed U S casualties. Officials caution on details of killed and wounded and identities.
A lost furred glove was found near Potts' store and a reward is offered at the Star office for its return.
Buffalo reports AFL leaders will push a peace issue test of strength with the war effort in focus. Several war resolutions are before committees and a key one will be chosen for a delegates vote. Prediction suggests under a score of delegates may back a peace measure.
Secretary of the Navy Daniels said the submarine menace failed as a decisive factor in the war. He noted Germany's fall plan to starve Britain did not work and that maneuvering with destroyers has minimized the danger.
