Roger LaPorte a 20 year old pacifist died from 95 percent burns suffered after dousing himself with gasoline and setting himself on fire in front of the United Nations in a antiwar protest. He died Wednesday at Bellevue Hospital where he received last rites from Rev. Alexander Busuttill.

The parade from Sarah Zane Fire Hall to Loudoun Street featured VFW colors, Handley High School Band, Gold Star mothers, and veterans. The event, chaired by Dudley C. Reynolds, ends with a luncheon at the Way Memorial Building.

FBI announces the Reno arrest of John Edward Marsh 29 of Paper Mill Road in the 14220 dollar robbery of the Commercial and Savings Bank Loudoun Street Virginia. He was remanded to custody on a 25000 bond and jailed after waiving a prelim. The robbery occurred Sept 22 with two employees present and no injuries.
The governor lauded Byrd as one of our greatest Americans and said he would not persuade Byrd to change his mind about stepping down. Byrd had contemplated retirement in 1958, triggering turmoil in the Virginia General Assembly amid party split pressures.
