Winchester and Frederick County will share a new health center after City Council approval. The plan includes a lease between city and county, an architect agreement, and transfer of funds for construction costs. County will rent space at 4 percent annually for 25 years, sharing heating and future improvement costs.
A two year old boy named Billy Hancock ran into S. Loudoun Street around 10:41 a.m. today and was struck by a car driven by Sheriff Robert L DeHaven, according to Winchester Police. He was taken to Winchester Memorial Hospital for treatment and his injuries were not yet determined.
The Shenandoah Conservatory presents tunes from Mary Poppins and Bach selections at the Shenandoah College auditorium on Friday at 8 p.m. Paul Noble conducts a 60 member orchestra. Admission is free.
Winchester cab operators asked the city council for a 10 cent fare increase from 45 to 55 cents for two riders and from 50 to 60 cents for three to five riders. American losses in Vietnam during the first week of November reached 70 killed and 237 wounded, the highest weekly toll so far. Most deaths occurred near the Special Forces camp at Pleiku Me in the central highlands, with totals 933 killed and 4,801 wounded to date.
