Five in Clarke Arrested in Oct. 16 Slaying
Five persons were arrested in connection with the Oct. 16 bludgeon slaying of Ben T. Hall, an elderly Spotsylvania County farmer. Ralph Clarence Martin and his brother Lewis Harris Martin, plus Lewis’ wife Flose Mae Martin, face murder and robbery charges. Robert Thomas Hillyard and his wife Barbara Anne Hillyard were charged as accessories. All were held in Clarke County jail until moved to Fredericksburg on bond of 50,000 each. Preliminary hearing date not yet set.
