Missing Child Now Believed Kidnapped in East Meadow

Battle Says Virginia Officials Likely To Refuse Integrated Schools Funding

Slayer of State Trooper Is Killed by Captor at Motel
In Neptune Township New Jersey a 26 year old man Sammy Alvarez of Brooklyn shot and killed state trooper John Anderson after fleeing a service station he held captive and entering the Fernwood Motel where motel owner Edward Whittenhour and his wife were tied and gagged. Whittenhour freed himself and fired a rifle blast killing Alvarez at point blank as police closed in. Anderson who died at Riverview Hospital after reporting the attacker’s car details. Alvarez had been hunted since the Garden State Parkway confrontation near Red Bank.

Events include a 11 a.m. ceremony at the Confederate monument, a 11:15 a.m. service at Sacred Heart, a 12 noon luncheon at the VFW Post Home, and a 2 p.m. football game between Handley and Beall High School.

Diphtheria Fatal To 11 Year Old Frederick Co Girl
Frederick County reports its first diphtheria death in years as 11 year old Diana L. Shull of Welltown Pike dies at Memorial Hospital after falling ill Friday. She had not been immunized, and the Health Department is investigating the neighborhood and offering booster shots to classmates. Vaccination clinics are available Wednesdays at the Braddock Street office. Diana, born 1944, was a Stonewall School pupil and member of Clearbrook Presbyterian Church. she is survived by parents William and Jane Green Shull and four siblings.

A fierce fire in Meadville Pennsylvania destroyed the Lafayette Hotel building, forcing about 60 guests to flee in nightclothes. No deaths were reported and five guests on the top floor were rescued by wall and aerial ladders as crews battled the four hour blaze.
