Early cover spray urged to protect fruit in June
Growers should apply the first cover spray at the earliest moment and finish by June 4 if possible. If not complete, continue on favorable days. A heavy cooling mouth worm outbreak is expected early in June, so a fresh lead arsenate coating on fruit and foliage by June 4 is vital. Materials for 100 gallons include lead arsenate three pounds lime three pounds and wettable sulfur four pounds or flotation sulfur paste eight pounds. Nicotine sulphate at a half pint per 100 gallons will help reduce moths in affected orchards. Summer oil second spray requires omitting sulfur fungicide.
