Announcement from Rome states the Pope has promoted Andrew J Brennan auxiliary bishop of Scranton to the vacancy in Richmond Virginia, succeeding Dennis J OConnell who resigned for health reasons. Brennan, about 48, was a noted Holy Cross seminary baseball player and was consecrated as assistant bishop in Scranton.
A Lisbon dispatch says cavalry patrols the capital day and night after a mutiny by two divisions marching on the city. The situation is reported calm with normal work continuing despite a rigid censorship that has hindered news. Newspapers have suspended publication in protest.
