Search Goes On For a Negro Who Killed Officer
Hendersonville North Carolina May 31 A scattered search was under way today by a posse of officers and citizens for Fred Shelden a negro slayer of Deputy Sheriff H L Capps who was killed Saturday night. The shooting occurred when officers were returning with Myrtle Means and Sheldon after the two had been arrested charged with violation of the prohibition act. The negro is declared to have killed Capps after making a pretense to get the officer to alight momentarily from the automobile in which they were riding.

Mrs Rankin Dies at Sacred Heart Rectory in Winchester
Mrs Mary E Rankin mother of Rev Thomas A Rankin rector of the Sacred Heart Church Winchester died about 7 AM at the church rectory on Loudoun and Cecil streets in her eighty seventh year. She was born in County Armagh Ireland September 22 1839 and came to America in 1859 living in Richmond 55 years. Her funeral includes a solemn requiem high mass at Sacred Heart Winchester and later interment in Richmond.
