A Buenos Aires decree imposes strict limits on export apples with bar rel and basket shipping only if each fruit is wrapped in waterproof paper. The rules also require incineration of any shipment with a single infected apple, risking heavy losses for growers.
In Corporation Court Judge Williams awarded Mrs Annie Hawkins $74 plus costs for nursing Mrs Minerva Wilson. The will asked that anyone caring for her be paid for their trouble. Hawkins received $1 per day extra for 60 days and $14 for another helper who assisted two weeks.

Complaints of room and meal overcharging at the Apple Blossom Festival were aired, with a cap of 1.25 per person per night for two in a room being set.
The Knight Soda Fountain Company won a 1047.28 judgment against George Semples, a pool room proprietor, in corporation court for a deferred payment sale of a soda fountain and equipment. If not paid in 30 days, the city sergeant will sell the fountain at public auction.
The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia authorizes a 9885 dollar extension to expand Winchester central office capacity. The site now serves 2405 telephones with 63 added since January and plans 400 extra lines to prevent early exhaustion. Total state additions and betterments reach 2211585 dollars this year.

James Russell Sonner longtime Stephens City resident dies at home after years of poor health. Native of Toms Brook aged 74 born 1856 survived by widow Bertha Campbell four daughters Earl Sonner and sister Margaret. Funeral Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Green Hill Cemetery interment. Red Men attend in a body.
The Winchester Park Association baseball team faces Purcellville at 3 o'clock Saturday at Rouss Park. Purcellville is known as a strong spring squad, while Winchester, coached by Hockman, has been practicing hard. The Funktown Maryland club visits Winchester Sunday at 3 o'clock for one of the season's top games. Proceeds from both games go toward building a real park for Winchester.
Charles M. Ripley, Purdue graduate and General Electric researcher, will speak to the Winchester Rotary Club on Electricity Past Present and Future. He has studied electrical progress as a social and economic force for 25 years and authored works including Romance of a Great Factory and Life in a Large Manufacturing Plant.
The 1,356 wards of the Children's Home Society of Virginia may lose care if the society closes due to heavy debt. A state-wide drive May 25–30 aims to raise $50,000 to erase the indebtedness and keep the society operating for dependent homeless boys and girls.
Lester Shillingburg of Dilbeck Powell's Fort Shenandoah county Va is held in Woodstock jail on a Frederick county circuit court grand jury charge of extreme cruelty to a horse owned by G N Funk of Powell's Fort. The act occurred near Marlboro yesterday morning. Shillingburg allegedly struck the horse with an axe twice. He was captured at his Dilbeck home by Deputy Sheriff Jacob Sheetz and jailed. The case goes before Winchester grand jury next Monday. maiming animals is a felony carrying prison punishment.
Robert Barrett of Alexandria a noted Scottish Rite Mason and son of the late Kate Waller Barrett suffered a heart attack last evening while speaking to a local Scottish Rite group in the Farmers and Merchants National Bank and Trust Company building. He was treated at home of James R. DuShane then transported by friends to Alexandria after hours of care. Barrett is known across the United States for Masonry work and philanthropy.
The navy dirigible Los Angeles returned to Lakehurst after a practice flight near New York City. It took off again at 8:15 a m for a cruise over Philadelphia Baltimore Washington and Annapolis, with expected sunset return.
A Common Pleas judge in Cleveland denied a motion by a taxpayer to halt the Schmeling Stribling heavyweight title fight set for July 3 at Municipal Stadium. The defense argued the event is a boxing contest with payouts fixed regardless of result, not a prize fight.
Mrs. Annie Conard 46 of Lehew Hampshire County West Virginia died at 5 02 am in Winchester Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She survived by husband Henry C. Conard and one daughter Miss Della Spence plus a brother Noah Cave. Funeral from C G Lofton 388 Charles Street at 2 pm Friday with Rev Dr S S Flickinger officiating and burial in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
A coast guard patrol boat halted a long chase in Long Island Sound after seizing 300 cases of liquor from a speed boat named Java, listed as a ram runner. One man was shot, two were arrested, and the wounded man identified himself as Harry Barber of Oradell New Jersey with scalp and head injuries.
Virgil Kirkland a Gary youth was convicted of assault and battery with intent to kill and sentenced to one to ten years in the Indiana reformatory for the death of Arlene Draves. The outcome dismisses charges against four co defendants and follows a prior life imprisonment recommendation at a first trial.
Leroy Armstrong of Harrisonburg Virginia was fined 15.25 dollars after a drunken altercation in Winchester led to arrest and assault claims. Also fined 15.25 for Martha Whitlock and the group faced jail time until new proceedings. Armstrong said he was en route to Baltimore to buy paints when he joined Emmett Whitlock and others for liquor and a brawl.
Paris reports the cabinet selected Marshal Petain to represent France at the Yorktown sesqui-centennial observance in Yorktown Virginia on October 16 9. A tablet honoring French soldiers of the American Revolution will be unveiled.
Le Bourget France May 27 Captain Frank Hawks landed at 6 10 p m winning a bet that he could have breakfast in London luncheon in Berlin and dinner in Paris in the same day. He left Paris at 2 20 a m going first to Croydon England airport and then to Berlin.
In San Sebastian martial law was declared after two were killed and seven gravely wounded in a clash between soldiers and striking fishermen. Authorities said the fishermen were stirred by Communist agitators. In Harrisburg a conference of ten state governors, invited by Governor Pinchot, is slated for June 19 and 20 to discuss labor and industrial issues with invited states including New York New Jersey Delaware Rhode Island Massachusetts Maryland West Virginia Ohio and Virginia.
Paris May 27 Foreign Minister Aristide Briand withdrew his resignation at a meeting of the council of ministers and announced he would remain in the cabinet.

Beulah F. Reffit, 35, mother of six, died during a struggle over a pistol her husband John F. Reffit, 50, used in an apparent suicide bid. Their 16 year old son Lloyd wrestled the gun away. the father then seized a shotgun and knife before family intervened, authorities say. Police kept him in jail to prevent further harm.
A special meeting of the Winchester Memorial Hospital board of directors is called for 4 p m on Thursday May 28 at the hospital to authorize borrowing up to seventy thousand dollars and to secure the loan by deed of trust on hospital property. The aim is to redeem bonds due September 1 1931 and cover pressing bills. Dr Hunter H McGuire is president and notices were sent to directors in Northern Virginia and nearby West Virginia regions.
