The girl is alleged to be 13 or 14, but the clerk was later told she was over 18. The couple left town before midnight after obtaining a license in the early morning hours, with Lonas seeking to stop the marriage. Offenbacher, 26, formerly with Winchester police, had been boarding at Lonas’ house.

Six men are confirmed dead after an early morning fire destroyed the Mills Hotel in Newark an automobile district area. Three others reportedly died and more than twenty escaped as flames blocked exits.
