Air Disaster Worst in U S History
The DC 10 crashed after an engine fell off at O Hare en route from Chicago to Los Angeles killing 271 aboard in the nation’s worst air disaster. Fire and explosion followed the nose first impact as investigators from NTSB and others began work at the scene. The scene was described by witnesses as a blazing wreck with many bodies recovered by nightfall.
