Treasury seeks debt limit hike to 324 billion
Secretary Dillon asked Congress to raise the temporary debt ceiling from 315 billion to 324 billion for the new fiscal year beginning July 1. If not acted by June 30 it reverts to 285 billion, about 25 billion below current debt. Malaysia's Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman may visit Washington in mid July for talks with President Johnson. Defense and Navy leaders plan shipyard tours at Charleston Norfolk and other yards to prepare for possible shutdowns. President and Mrs Johnson will host a state dinner with Irish President De Valera featuring Colleen Dewhurst and George C Scott performing Irish readings.
